Unseen Lives: Reportage Photography from Ren Jian Magazine, 1985–1989. Taiwan

Image
I worked as a photojournalist at the prestigious Ren Jian (人間, People) Magazine in Taiwan in my late twenties. To stay true to the subjects I reported on, I traveled to many remote areas, cities, and towns across Taiwan, staying for extended periods to build genuine relationships with the people I was focusing on. Image
The Subtlety of Gray, acrylic on canvas, 36 x 36 inches The streets of love, and the streets of hate. The feeling of not enough, and the feeling of hurt. Wanting and more wanting, Trying to get praise and respects. Let it go, let it go, drop them all, from now on. The streets of happiness, and the streets of sorrow. The streets of greed, The streets of despise. The streets of unwelcome The street of scare… The streets that I've never known they exist And the hidden corners, on the dark side of the streets. The streets of thieves, The streets of robbers, The streets of hookers, And the streets of humans, mothers and fathers, Brothers and sisters. The streets of angels and the streets of devils. The streets of grays. The grays that have no names. (Inspired by my mom's dream: when my grandfather told her: Don't walk on that road... ) Yeachin Tsai Fine Art
