Renowned artist/ meditation master Dzigar Kontrul Rinpoche gave a wonderful talk on art and meditation in New York Shambhala Center this past weekend. My friend told me about its content. There is one meaningful sentence particularly struck me: "Canvas has to be shunyata itself."Shunyata, "emptiness" - a profound empty space, full of possibility, not just "void". The surface of a blank paper, a canvas, is shunyata. We let the strokes/ marks be, let ourselves be.
